Thank you NPTO!

Thank you for making NobleBOOro Spooktacular a success! We definitely appreciate all the creative people who worked before, during and after the event to host a fun time for the community. Also, a huge thank you to our guests. Thank you for coming out on a blustery evening!
Next, we are looking forward to K-4 PUMPKIN DAY to be held on Wednesday morning, 10/31.  On Pumpkin Day, children are immersed in seasonal group activities that incorporate math, arts and crafts, with lots of mobility. We love Pumpkin Day! (Because of our pumpkin activities, students are not expected to bring costumes to school. So . . . you'll be able to save costume excitement for evening family time.)

Fall sports and activities

We're nearing the end of our fall sports season.

Congratulations to the soccer team on their playoff win yesterday! The Lions defeated Isleboro 3-2 and will face Camben today at 4:45 (away game).

Field Hockey has a home playoff game today vs. Camden. That game starts at 3:45.

Cross Country Busline League Championships are this week, too, at Troy Howard.
GO LIONS!
Monday, October 22: Each fall, Lincoln Academy hosts a Pumpkin Run to encourage middle school students to participate in Cross Country. Students who would like to participate must have parents sign a permission slip and return that by Wednesday, 10/17 to Mrs. York. The participants will stay after school and take a bus to LA, but parents should plan to pick them up at LA after at 5:00 pm. The run is approximately 2 miles and the top 10 boys and girls get medals. All participants get to take home a pumpkin! Contact Mrs. York with any questions at myork@aos93.org.

SPORTS UPDATE:

  • The Lions Soccer Team lost their playoff game to # 1, undefeated Camden 7.  The game score was 6-2 and we played a much better game with them than in the regular season.
  • The Field Hockey team lost to Camden in a double overtime, penalty shots deciding game.  Thanks to Shep Brown for stepping in for the AD and keeping the AD/soccer coach updated!
It's been a great season for both teams!

Nobleboro Girl Scouts think about giving back:

Girl Scouts present at the October School Board Meeting
Our leaders asked us what we would like to do this year. One of the things we said was to give back to our community. Our group has been meeting at the school for 7 years and we would like to show our appreciation for the school letting us use the building for free. We noticed that the playground and the front of the school could use a makeover!

Our goal:  To improve the playground and the appearance of the outside of the school.

Our ideas:

  • Remove bushes and trees by playground fence
  • Trim back or remove bushes and tree along the front of the building
  • Build and place a Buddy Bench (1 or 2?)
  • Make and "plant" decorative stepping stones
  • Create a kindness rock garden
  • Build and fill a little FREE library and little FREE food pantry
  • Build and equip a play kitchen
  • Build a raised perennial flower garden
  • Create magnetic storyboards and games (tic tac toe)

The School Community

Here's something that we often see at school (and we really appreciate). In 8th grade, students are given a variety of opportunities to exercise responsibility. Sprinkled throughout the day and/or year, 8th grade students are a visible example to others in a variety of ways including morning announcements, maintaining our flags, or guiding K students at lunch to name a few.

Case in point: Maxen and Cohen (above) are naturals when it comes to Learning Lunch.  (Learning Lunch? That's our gentle way of acclimating our youngest students to our school lunch routine. Kindergarten children spend a portion of their first year having lunch together, family style, before transitioning to the larger group of K-3 children.)

This Saturday, October 13 is the NHS Applesfest celebration. You will see 8th grade students on hand at Applefest to assist NHS members in setting up for the event and also run a refreshments table.  Applefest is this Saturday, 10am - 2pm.

Another popular event coming later in the month is NPTO's fundraiser, NobleBOOro Spooktacular, Saturday, October 27, 5-8pm.  8th grade will be there too!

If you are interested in other ways to help our school, Hannaford Helps Schools makes an annual donation. With a little effort from everyone, our school has sometimes been the recipient of the bonus check too. Here's how that works:
Between 9/2/18 and 12/1/18, with the purchase of 4 participating Hannaford Helps Schools items, a customer will receive a printout for 3 school dollars at the register. The customer can place that printout into your school's slot in the Hannaford Helps Schools collection tower, located at the front of the store that your school is registered with. Additionally, Hannaford will donate $1,000 to each school that earns the most dollars from their store location!
