Nobleboro's SUMMER LEARNING INSTITUTE

Are you looking for ways to help your child continue with the progress made during the 2015-16 school year? You have options!

The 2016 NCS Summer Learning Institute

  • All K - 7  students (entering 1-8) are invited to participate in summer learning experiences.  There are several ways to do this!
  • There will be a celebration and NCS Book Buck rewards for participants in all of the summer learning opportunities below!

ALL K - 7 NCS students are encouraged to participate in our annual
NCS Summer Reading Challenge
It’s easy! Students set a summer reading goal with their teachers and record their progress through the summer. When they return to school in September, they turn in the record sheet to Ms. Harriman, our librarian. If they’ve met their goal, they win an invitation to a celebration and NCS Book Bucks.

A number of NCS students will be nominated by their teachers or parents to join our
NCS Online Learning Institute
Students use Aleks or IXL for math practice and/or Lexia for reading. They can practice anytime and anywhere they have access to a digital device and the Internet. Parents and teachers can nominate students for online learning. NCS staff will monitor students’ progress through the summer. As with the Summer Reading Challenge, students who participate regularly and make progress in online learning will get an invitation to a celebration and NCS Book Bucks.

NEW THIS YEAR! Families in grades 1- 5 can sign up for our weekly
NCS Lending Library Program
On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 - 1:00 from June 28th through July 29th students (accompanied by an adult) can stop by the NCS literacy room next to the office and borrow a book from our beautiful Leveled Literacy Intervention kits. The books are organized from level A (kindergarten) - level W (5th grade.) Families will be asked to sign up to be part of the Lending Library Program. Books will be logged for the Summer Reading Challenge!

Some NCS students will be nominated by their teachers to join our
NCS Summer School
Summer school will be running again this year at NCS for students currently in grades 2 - 5. The sessions will take place here at school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 am to 11 am from June 28th through July 29th. Teachers will recommend students, and parents may also make a request by contacting their child’s teacher or the office.

Look for more information in the coming weeks!

Approximately 15 minute delay for afternoon bus route

The buses left school about 15 minutes after their schedule time this afternoon (traffic, etc.)

Students were able to enjoy this lovely afternoon weather with a spontaneous recess before boarding buses to return home.   They left the school at about 2:55 pm.

Take me out to the ballgame!

The Lady Lions will play two home softball games this week:
  • Monday, 5/23 v. Oceanside @ 3:45
  • Tuesday, 5/24 v. Bristol @ 3:45
Here's a summary from a recent game.

The Lady Lions played an excellent game against Wiscasset yesterday. Defensively Tegan, Anna, and Maddy O. held strong in the outfield to ensure the hits Wiscasset had would not earn the runner more than one base. Offensively the girls' bats were alive and everyone on the team had a hit and scored.  The girls were quick and extremely aggressive running the bases. Our offensive powerhouses were Aubree and Katelin with one double each, Maddy Y. with two doubles, and Katelin and Olivia with in the park, to the fence, home runs.

Remember, sports schedules can change due to weather. Our family calendar on the website is a handy reference when looking for updated information about games and practice.

We hope you'll take some time to come out to a game, breath in the fresh air, visit with neighbors, and support our team this season!

Wrapping up one week and looking forward to next week!

There is rhythm to each school year, much like the seasons! You can be absolutely certain we're well into May when the sound of children's voices singing floats through the primary wing, especially in the afternoon.

Today students in grades 2 and 3 had an opportunity to share that music before a live audience. With great joy and enthusiasm the children performed the story of Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock.

Next week is the NPTO Book Fair. It's open Monday-Friday immediately before and after school. This is the buy-one-get-one-free spring event. Stock up now for summer reading!

Thursday, May 26 is fast approaching.  We hope you'll be able to join us Thursday evening for the Spring Concert and Art Exhibit.  Students in band and senior chorus arrive at 6pm to warm up in the music room.  All kindergarten-grade 5 students should gather in their classrooms at 6:15pm.  The performance begins at 6:30.  Art will be on exhibit in the halls and the book fair is also open immediately before and after the concert.

As I write this, the girls team is rushing out the front door to catch the bus to their softball game at St. George.  Bonus:  It's a beautiful afternoon to be outdoors!  Watch for softball news--coming soon.

Thursday, May 26--Spring Concert, Art Show and Book Fair

Spring is here! Thursday, May 26 is an exciting evening at NCS. Mark your calendars for the ever popular NCS spring concert, art exhibit and NPTO book fair.

Students in grades K-5 perform in the Spring Concert, as well as Jr. and Sr. Bands, and the Senior Chorus. The concert begins at 6:30 pm. This is considered our "dress up" event. (Audience and parents are encouraged to dress for the occasion too.) Reminder: Both bands and chorus should refer to their dress code described in the band and chorus handbooks.

Student art work will be on display that evening, giving our halls a festive vibe. Families are welcome to enjoy a stroll through the halls immediately before or after the concert to view the exhibit.

The book fair, which is open to students the entire week, will also be open that evening in the library. We hope you'll take advantage of the buy-one-get-one-free sale. The book fair is brought to us by the NPTO.

We hope to see you on Thursday evening, May 26!
