Spring Portraits on Friday, Mar 22 and looking ahead

We're through week one of MEA testing and it appears to have gone smoothly.  Our students tend to work on the MEA's Tues-Thurs mornings, with a fresh air break or two. It's so helpful if your child comes to school on time, well rested and having had breakfast and looking forward to a healthy morning snack.

Lifetouch will be here Friday, March 22 for a short time in the morning. This is for any students interested in spring portraits. You must have an order completed to have your child's picture taken. Spring photos are not mandatory from our point of view. Please remember to send your child with their order form if you want to have your child photographed.

Be watching for Trimester 2 reports which are expected to go out on Friday, March 22th.

Next week Mrs. Courand returns to Grade 4.  We are VERY thankful to Ms. Sperry for her diligent and professional attention to detail during Mrs. Courand's leave.

Looking ahead at the last week of March (so soon!), grade 2 and 3 will have a FARMS unit, grade 4 repeats swimming and grade 5 begins DARE. The Battle of the Books team is reading/meeting during lunch. Archery Club continues with a 5-8 competition on Friday, March 29. (No archery on Tuesday because 5&6 and 7&8 have a combined time on the 29th.) Spring sports are starting up. NCS pitchers/catchers meet next week. See the NCS family calendar for dates/times.
Happy Spring!

March 11-13th

It's a short week for students.   No school for students on Thursday 3/14 or Friday 3/15 (staff development days).

Kieve after school activities wrapped up last week. Thanks to everyone who participated, and thank you to Noah and Nelson for organizing the activities and making the program a success again this year.

Because of the short week, Archery Club has a change in their schedule.  Both 5&6 and 7&8 grade archery club will have one practice this week on Wednesday 3/13/19 (instead of their Tuesday/Friday times).  We'll return to the regular schedule next week.

Lifetouch is coming on March 22 for spring pictures. Spring pics are a little different from the ones in the fall.  Lifetouch will only take photos of students who have signed up. Order forms will go home this week.  You should be able to order online too.  The spring portraits are a little fancier than school photos. Signing up for this is totally optional to families. There is not a makeup date for the spring pictures.

Trimester 2 ends this week.   T2 reports will be available a week from Friday, March 22.

Some 8th grade news:

Congratulations to Alden Hunold!  He will represent our school at the next level of the National Geographic Geography Bee on Friday, March 29. Alden was one of the classroom representatives at our school Geo Bee, next came a written test, and now he's been invited to the Maine State Geography Bee to be held later this month at University of Maine, Farmington.

Town meeting is Saturday. We appreciate the fact that our 8th grade students will be there to help welcome Nobleboro residents and observe the town meeting process.

Enjoy the week!

We're Back to School!

Suddenly it seems like February vacation is just a distant memory!  Here's what's happening now:
  • More TRANSFER STATION SIGNS have been made by the STEAM TEAM in the ART ROOM.  This will help people figure out where to put their recyclables and trash!  The signs will be delivered in March.
  • Kieve activities continue to be a popular for many students--for one more week. Noah and Nelson wrap up KIEVE AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES next week, March 4-7, but we will see them here during the school day for a bit longer.  We really appreciate Noah and Nelson's enthusiasm for our students.
  • COMMUNITY READ ALOUD volunteers will visit classrooms on Friday. This is part of Read Across America, which often seems to coincide with Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration.  (Guess how old Dr. Seuss would be this year?  The answer is embedded somewhere within this post. ) Read on . . .
  • Grade 4 will go to HIDDEN VALLEY NATURE CENTER next Wednesday, March 6 for an outdoor classroom experience. Please dress appropriately and either bring or pre-order a bag lunch
  • NO SCHOOL for students on THURSDAY, MAR 14 and FRIDAY, MAR 15 (staff professional development days).

  • When students return from the Mar 14-16 long weekend, we'll be heading straight into Trimester 3.  We are growing up sooo fast.  By T3, kindergarten students begin looking like first graders and 8th grade students are starting to resemble freshmen. To think you can see that on Center Street within 105 days of school!

  • Nobleboro's TOWN MEETING is Saturday, March 16 at 10 am. Eighth grade students will be present to assist and host with coffee and snacks. This is a great opportunity for these students to witness town government in process.
Kindergarten students dined on green eggs and ham (in just under 105 minutes) during a recent visit to the library. Mixed reviews on the green eggs.

PS:   NPTO would love your input.  SPOOKTACULAR SURVEY

Happy 100th Day!

This year is flying. 100 days! K-4 grade students commemorate the milestone with a variety of small group activities, and a 100 day museum is on display in the lobby.

Moving along . . .
Lincoln Academy visits the 8th grade class on Tuesday afternoon to begin the process of selecting schedules for next year.

This week's 4th grade trip to Hidden Valley Nature Center has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 6.  Grade 1 is invited to Lincoln Home this week on Thursday.

Two new activities will begin this month.  Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to be part of archery club. Their first meeting is on Friday. The 5/6 grade archery club begins Tuesday, February 26. Students should see Mrs. York for more details/permission forms.

We are beginning to think and plan for Kindergarten, September 2019. If you have a child that will attend, please let us know by completing the Pre-Registration form on this link: Pre-Registration LInk
Enjoy the week before February break!
